About Me

I've been making knives for over 9 years. I started making knives while I was a licensed hunter in Germany because I was disappointed about the quality of the knives I owned (not cheapies.)

After I moved to the United States in 1999, I got to know the custom knife business, BLADE and KNIFE magazines and a couple Makers,  and got inspired to make folders.  I soon realized how challenging “folders” were for me - a toolmaker.  When I worked on my first folder, I realized the tiny screws require a Precision Screw Cutter, so I built one. Today a lot of makers like Allen Elishewitz, Bob Terzuola and many more are using it.  I fell in love with restoring old knives after studying the Old Masters of Sheffield.

In 2006 I joined the German Knife-makers Gilde "DMG". In the spring of 2007 I got laid off into

full time Knife-making and so a dream became true. Two big articles in Blade May 07 and in the

German Messermagazin April/May with 'My story' got published just in time to give a start booster.

My  copies of the Horseman’s Knife received the " Best Miniature Award' at the Knife Expo in California as well as on the OKCA show.

I enjoy doing my own scrimshaw and like to work with ATS, RWL, and Damascus for my blades. I mostly use Mastodon, Elephant Ivory, and Ironwood for handle material.  (I started using Ironwood after  I saw what happened to the wood used in my Hunters knives from Germany.  The unstabilized wood did not perform well in Arizona.)

I joined the Arizona Knife Makers in 2001 and started to attend their shows the following year. As you can see, I enjoy making knives, (even though making high precision tools remains a passion.)
